Best Entry-Level, Cheap Electric Scooters by Price ($299 – $1,499)
Gotrax GXL V2 Electric Scooter Review
Summary
The Gotrax GXL V2 is one of the most affordable electric scooters available. As a result, you’ll get the lowest battery, suspension (none), and drivetrain this product budget can buy while still making a profit.
This is still the greatest electric scooter you can get on a budget for $299. The GXL is still ideal for brief journeys to the grocery store, the dentist, or even work.
Pros: Low cost, good materials, and it takes you to your last-mile destination without a hitch.
Cons: Low-cost components, slower drivetrain; better as a temporary fix. Maintenance is more difficult, and spare parts are difficult to come by. On your ride, you’ll be aware of every bump, rock, and vibration. For lengthy journeys, the scooter’s deck is simply too small and uncomfortable.
On the market, there are far more powerful scooters with superior drivetrains and components. When compared to the best North American Electric Scooter dealers, the customer service needs much improvement.

Hiboy S2 Electric Scooter Review
Summary
The Hiboy S2 is an improvement over the GXL. When compared to the GXL, the S2 will go further and accelerate faster thanks to its 350W motor and 17-mile range. All while being one of the lightest and most affordable charging electric scooters around.
The S2 is an excellent scooter for last-mile commutes and riders on a $500 budget. I would recommend a model from the Best 40 MPH Electric Scooters to riders who want to go great distances, move faster, and use their scooters a lot.
Pros: Low cost, good materials, and more powerful than the Gotrax GXL.
Cons: Low-cost components, slower drivetrain; good as a temporary fix. The lack of suspension and the narrow deck resulted for an uncomfortable riding position. Long-distance commuting is not recommended with this scooter.
Gotrax XR Elite Electric Scooter Review
Summary
Not much different from the GXL or S2, the Gotrax XR Elite is the one the lightest and cheapest electric scooters on the market. This scooter is extremely inexpensive and ideal for quick trips around town.
Pros: Low cost, good materials, gets the job done in the last mile. GXL V2 is slightly superior.
Cons: Low-cost materials, a slower drivetrain, and no suspension, making it only suitable as a last-mile alternative. Maintenance is more difficult, and spare parts are harder to get by.
Segway Ninebot MAX Electric Scooter
Summary
The Ninebot is a cult classic electric scooter due to its price, weight, range, and performance. The Ninebot is one of the best, and cheapest, electric scooters on the market, with a range of up to 40 miles, short commutes, and a top speed of 18 miles per hour.
Pros: Low cost, good materials, gets the job done in the last mile.
Cons: Low-cost components, slower drivetrain; good as a temporary fix. Maintenance is more difficult, and spare parts are harder to get by.
Inmotion L9 Electric Scooter Review
Summary
The L9 is a terrific option for your work commute for $1,000. The L9 is more suited for keeping up with inter-city traffic and cyclists in the bike lane, with a top speed of 25 MPH and a cruising speed of 18 MPH.
With a huge 675Wh battery pack, the L9 should be able to handle a 30 mile round-trip commute depending on ride style, rider weight, and terrain.
Speedway 4 Mini Electric Scooter Review
Summary
The Speedway 4 Mini is a low-cost, full-power electric scooter with a range of 30 miles and a top speed of 28 mph. For $1,000, you get a lot of power… think how the $2,700 Dualtron Victor or the $4,000 Dualtron Ultra compare. The Mini is ideal for riders who are just getting started with electric scooters.

VSETT 9 Electric Scooter Review
Summary
For its entry-level price, the VSETT 9 is one of the more premium scooters on the list, delivering on performance, comfort, and craftsmanship. While the VSETT is three times the price of the Gotrax, the ride characteristics, 26 MPH drivetrain, and build quality make up for it.

Speeway Leger Pro Electric Scooter Review
Summary
The Leger Pro provides a lot of power and value for a scooter in the 30 MPH class at $1,400. Segways, Hboys, and Gotrax’s will be left in the dust with the 45-mile range and 31-mph top speed. This is an excellent scooter for riders who seek a smooth, reliable, and simple electric vehicle. Check out the Dualtron Victor or Dualtron Thunder 2 electric scooters for thrill seekers.

Futecher Gun Pro Electric Scooter Review
Summary
The Futecher Gun Pro is a no-brainer if you’re willing to spend an extra $100 above the Speedway Mini 4. The Futecher reintroduces the Mini 4 with the enhanced features riders have asked in the past, improving on the specs of the Mini 4.

EMOVE CRUISER Electric Scooter Review
Summary

Dualtron Mini Electric Scooter Review
Summary
For design, form, and power, the Dualtron Mini is the perfect blend of features for a beginner commuter electric scooter. While not cheapest in the list, the Mini’s build quality, 32 MPH drivetrain, and ride features are worth the extra investment.

Whats the best, low cost, entry-level Electric Scooter?
What you pay for is what you get.
Your budget will determine which electric scooter is ideal for you. The Speedway Leger Pro is my recommendation for a beginner scooter. For $1,400, you get a sturdy 30 MPH scooter with a 40-mile range and Dualtron quality. While this scooter is three times the price of a Gotrax electric scooter, it has superior performance, builds, and riding quality. The EMOVE cruiser is another excellent option, with a top speed of 30 miles per hour and a range of up to 62 miles.
Whats the average budget for an entry-level scooter?
After two years of riding countless electric scooters for New York City commuting, I highly recommend new riders consider at least a 25 MPH, $1,000 electric scooter to start their PEV journey. Most of the time, people who start riding want to save money because they think $1,000 is a significant investment right away. They don’t notice how many people grow out of cheap scooters’ speed, power, and comfort. If you know you’ll want a more robust scooter after your first one, you might as well start with a scooter that can go 30 or 40 MPH.
- Riders outgrow their lower cost, slower scooters within a few weeks
- Investing in a stronger electric scooter will save you money in the long run
- Upgrading from cheap electric scooters can be costly, depreciation in resale
Electric Scooter Performance and Range Ceiling
Start with a stronger scooter
If you want to use an electric scooter as your primary or secondary mode of transportation, look for a more robust and heavier electric scooter. In this case, the cheaper models should work for you if you need to be able to take the scooter with you and only use it for the last few miles of your journey.
- Premium scooters have higher build quality, require less maintenance, and feature warranty for quality customer service and product support
- If using as a last mile solution, cheap, light-weight electric scooters will be fine for short commutes
- If you decide to upgrade, your first scooter can be used as back up
